Turk and Hyde Tiny Tot Playground

Although it’s the smallest playground in the Tenderloin, the Turk and Hyde Playground was one of our longest projects to complete.  When we started, there were only two childcare centers in the Tenderloin, and we knew that there were more than 1,000 Tenderloin children from toddlers to pre-schoolers who needed a place outside of their small rooms or apartments to be able to play.

BAWCC initiated and led the eight-year effort for this pre-school playground in the heart of the Tenderloin with a great deal of support and encouragement from parents with young children who were anxiously waiting for a place outside for their children to play.  The Turk & Hyde Playground opened in 2001, and was “re-freshed” in 2020.
